Happy 10th Birthday, XML
Early this week, Eve Maler, principal engineer at Sun and an identity luminary, pointed me to her latest posting, XML at X; film at XI (clever title!). "As something of a birthday present," she's republished a book she cowrote with Jeanne El Andaloussi on SGML in SGML, Developing SGML DTDs: From Text to Model to Markup. It's a comprehensive, superbly organized, and well-written volume.
Separately, courtesy of Sun identity architect Pat Patterson, I read an informative and fun-filled posting by Tim Bray, XML People, which is chock full of reminiscences. And no wonder: After all, XML is a whole 10 years old.
