Mango* - King of FOSS Offerings

If there is one thing that I terribly miss after moving to this country, that would be the variety of Mangoes in India. I've been asked at the United States Customs if I'm importing any mangoes. The fruit's flavor, fragrance and color is just great so I don't blame them at all. There is even International Mango Festival conducted every year since 1987 in Delhi. The festival features more than 550 varieties for visitors to view and taste.

I can talk at lengths about the fruit Mango but this entry is about Mango*. So what is it ?

Project mango* is an initiative to promote the use of Sun's (Free Open Source Software) FOSS stack in the enterprise middleware market. Mango* is an acronym which stands for
  • My SQL And
  • Netbeans
  • Glassfish
  • Open*...(OpenESB or OpenSSO or OpenPortal or OpenSolaris...)

It's not a new prodcut or technology but a packaging of Sun's FOSS offerings that brings reliable, scalable and open software to the enterprise. The main purpose is  to demonstrate and illustrate how enterprises achieve their IT and business goals using Sun's FOSS technologies.

This is a nice write about someone from India who misses his favorite fruit the mango. He recalls the different varieties of the mango fruit when he was at Delhi before going in to the US. Well I live in mango heaven (Quito) and I love to eat mangos with lemon & hot sauce * My SQL And * Netbeans * Glassfish * OpenSolaris This should be the phrase that catches on like LAMP!

Oh Im leaving in heaven then, When I was little, i used climb mango tree. Well may be I should post some mango here too. But first let me test Sun mango.. ;)

Haven't tried out Sun's Mango, but I agree with you on the edible mano part. The ones we get in the states are kind of bad. Almost like calling Taco Bell authentic mexican food.

What a disappointment ;). After reading the summary I thought you did somehow manage to import ripe mango. I ate real mango only once, my sistem bring a few with her when she travelled to Asia. I bought mango here in Europe, but they are under-ripe, not fit for human consumption.

Glassfish pre-configured JavaDB is perfect for testing and development... is it possible to have a pre-configured DataSource for MySql as well ?

For small applications, may I use JavaDB in production, or I should install a MySql Data Source for production?
