2007 JavaOne Call for Papers - Coming soon!

Posted by amvernon on November 03, 2006 at 03:21 PM | Comments (3)

The JavaOne Content team has been working diligently to finish all the details for our upcoming Call for Papers launch. And you can expect to see some new topics in the line up. Some possibilities include: Next Generation Web, Services & Integration, Emerging Technologies, Open Source & Community Development and The Business Side of Java. Coming in the next week or so to an inbox near you.

We've been working with Bob Brewin, CTO of the Software organization, who's got lots of ideas on how to expand our content offering. It's been an exciting couple of weeks. We've had great conversations with luminaries like Tim Bray on how Web 2.0 technologies and Java are linked together and what that means to developers.

Want a sneak preview of our 2006 Rock Stars? Based on the session survey data we received from JavaOne, we are about to award "Rock Star" status to the best speakers. Check out our tribute to them here

  • Comparing the rock stars to the session catalog from last year, it's interesting how disproportionate the ratings are - only one session each from the ME, Tools, and Cool Stuff tracks made it into the top tier, and no XML / Web Services talks did. Meanwhile, Desktop is remarkably well-represented, with 4 of the 17 top spots. Do you suppose Desktop topics are just more interesting to attendees (or somehow attract more engaging speakers)? Does this kind of feedback have any affect on decisions about which tracks to offer next year?

  • invalidname: This just proves that Desktop applications make you smarter, prettier and more successful. They also remove nasty body odors. Sometimes. (Just joking, don't hurt me!)

  • invalidname, the previous poll showed that there's a strong interest in Java Desktop, as it came close second to "Web applications" in the answers from java.net members.
