J2SE 5.0 - The Tiger

You've no doubt heard that J2SE 5.0 has now shipped. I was fortunate to be in New York for the launch and the interest in the release is growing daily, literally throughout the world.

This is the most rock solid release ever and I need your help to get everyone moving to 5.0. Why? It will make many folks lives easier whether its a sysadmin managing a stable cluster of JVMs that are easily monitored or a developer writing safer code in an IDE.

Like any new car we know the engine is good for 100,000 miles but maybe you have discovered something not quite right with the upholstery. We didn't find them in our inspection but we will fix them, please send in a bug report

Now to my reason for blogging today, the Tiger umbrella expert group. You see a list of companies associated with each JSR but there really are individuals behind it all. So thank you JSR 176 experts, Jim Adams (SAS), Christian Kemper (Borland), Michael Bechauf (SAP), Bob Fraser (Apple), Geir Magnusson Jr(Apache), Chris Gibson (IBM), John Zukowski, Juergen Kreileder (blackdown.org), Kei Kurihara (Fujitsu), Krishna Sankar (Cisco), Larry Rau (SavaJE), Staffan Larsen (BEA/JRockit), Brian Lichtenwalter (Nokia), Michey Mehta (HP), Osvaldo Doederlein, Pier Fumagalli (Apache), David Schorow (HP/Compaq), Sean Neville (Macromedia) and Michel Trudeau (Oracle)

One final note. Just to see how easy it is to use the new Thread executor service in 5.0 check out my JDJ editorial in this months magazine.
