Allow users to demo your J2EE app

Posted by carlavmott on January 26, 2006 at 04:54 PM | Comments (6)

Project app-hosting has been created for java.net projects to showcase their J2EE application and allow users to demo the app live. LocaWeb, a Brazilian internet service company, has agreed to host the Sun Java System Application Server PE 8.1 and we are very grateful.

The first application available for you to demo is AtLeap, . Hong Zhang, one of the deployment leaders blogged about her experience deploying the AtLeap application on the LocaWeb servers. There are some restrictions and requirements application developer must meet for consideration. For example, this service is for demo purposes and for projects hosted on java.net only. In addition, applications must meet packaging requirments and run on SJSAS PE 8.1. You can find all the requirements on the app-hosting website.

The app-hosting project will keep a list of the applications that are currently deployed. Next app which is in the process of getting deployed is BPCatalog.

  • a question: is it possible to have some integration tools like Cruise-Control or LuntBuild available on the java.net in the near future ? These kind of tools are very useful in open source projects...

** Some entries include tips about magical tool used by the sun engineers.. I don't know these tools, perhaps restricted to the Sun team or commercial stuff.. that's why I quoted cruise-control.. but any tool like that would be great for the java.net community.

Anything to help the projects leader to improve the processes adopted by their teams.

  • Thanks Felipe. It will be great to get more apps deployed.

As for the magical tool used by Sun engineers, not sure what that is. I had heard that the java.net team is looking at providing tools such as Cruise-control in the future. The GlassFish project would love to use such a tool too. Try posting on https://java-net.dev.java.net/ or contacting Marla Parker directly., I'm not involved in those discussions.

  • HI,

Derby is already installed and ready for use. At this time, it is accessable in network mode. Good to hear that you are migrating so you can show case your project live.

    Hope this helps.
