Slingin' Server Slogans

Posted by chet on July 19, 2006 at 03:55 PM | Comments (2)

Most of my blogs and articles are the result of some technical nugget in my head, rattling around in my head until it finally finds it's way online.

This is not that kind of article.

Instead, this is an ill-thought-out attempt to join the ranks of advertising copy people, whom I envision sitting around in a hot room with typewriters and lots of crumpled-up paper, trying desperately to come up with slogans for their clients.

I was inspired by press releases about the new systems that Sun announced last week (such as this one ), and thought I'd try a grass-roots effort at advertising. Given a budget of zero, and an audience that's probably not reading my blog for Sun ads, I don't have much hope. But given the other venues I have for these slogans, here they are. If you don't hear from me again, you'll know they didn't go over well internally.

"I gotta fervor for a server"

"Isn't it time you entered the store-age?"

    "Sun: Your switch-Blade specialist"

"Don't Opt-in; Opt, er, on. Sun Blade."

  • A stand-up comedian mind trapped in the body of a software engineer making marketing jokes has a certain appeal. Anyway, those servers are so fast they ought to be called the Blade Runners. Herm.

  • It takes more than a Sparc, to create a Sun Fire.OK, I guess it's pretty clear why I am not in marketing.
