JavaWorld just posted it's first Java Technology Insider podcast with yours truly.

Daniel Steinberg sat down with me at OSCON and we talked about Swing, 2D, and the present and future of Java Desktop technologies. The book may possibly have come up too, I can't quite recall.

By the way, after the discussion in the comments about podcasts on an earlier blog posting, I decided that, in fact, podcasts in the gym completely rock. It's a good way to hear something that you might not otherwise have time to squeeze into that busy day. (I'll let you decide whether this podcast suits you; I aim for other, more intellectual podcasts, like "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" and "The Onion Radio News.")

  • Desktop Java is definitely looking promising. But still, with all this focus on fancy graphics and animation, I hope we dont forget about some of the 'old fasioned stuff'. No one seems to be talking about new widgets or dialogs anymore...

(I'll have that Roumen Strobl song in my head all day now)

  • "No one seems to be talking about new widgets or dialogs anymore"
That's the focus of SwingX (swingx.dev.java.net), led and sponsored by Sun.

  • Hi Chet,

After listening to you on technometria I am looking forward to the comercial version of the jre with the new java scripts to detect jre versions ect. I wrote a filthy rich client and my biggest issue was deployment and the lack of ease to accomplish deployment.

I have left messages on java.net and no answers regarding using Firefox for deployment execept to have the user to download manually which loses the users quickly.

I look forward to a solution from sun that you mentioned.

    Regards,
