Well, because I use www.bloglines.com, which has a much clearer UI IMO.

Because, as most Google apps, I hate its UI.

I was a Bloglines user since day one. I also tried Google Reader back then, and I did not like its fancy GUI with low usability. It also had lack of functionality. Two months ago I retried Google Reader. It is much better now. I immediately exported my subscriptions at Bloglines and imported them on Google Reader. I do not use Bloglines anymore.

I have been using google reader since the day it was available, and the usability has greatly improved.
Important features are 'sorting by oldest', and pressing the magic 'u' key to hid away the menus.

I use NetNewsWire (a Mac app) which syncs to NewsGator's online service, so I can use it on the road.
This lets me have different profiles, so I see a different set of feeds at work (tech stuff) vs at home (family and friends photo journals and blogs) vs on a hand-held (just basic news).

I was an avid bloglines user too, and was one among those who gave up on google reader when it first came out.
Later, when google completely retooled their UI, and publicized it, i dubiosly, i gave it another shot, and boy, was i glad i did. The new google reader UI is very well designed and very usable. Now, i sometimes check back on bloglines to see how they are doing. Since, nothing much seems to have changed, i don't have a compelling reason to go back.
If i had a wish for google, that would be a mobile version of the google reader. I don't mean the wap version, rather a java version like their excellent gmail java me app.
