On Jazoon Pricing:
First of all I'd like to mention that Jazoon'07 has not intended to
compete with the existing Java conferences world-wide such as JavaOne
(which we see as our older sister maybe, but we're not related) or the
European ones such as JavaPolis or JAX. Rather, we want to establish
an opportunity for all those developers for whom attending JavaOne or
one of the others is impossible for economic reasons, language or for
the specific dates. With JavaPolis for example, we see ourselves more
as of a complement in the other half of the year. And the timing of
Jazoon short after JavaOne was intentional to allow some of the hot
topics from JavaOne to continue at Jazoon.
So it was one of our goals to make attending Jazoon also economically
feasible for developers in Europe etc. The pricing, however, has not
yet been fixed, but a full-entry (without early-bird discount) will be
most probably in the order of magnitude of about EUR 1300-1500 for the four-day conference.
But there are many ways to reduce the expenses on attending Jazoon:
Submit a good proposal for a technical session: Accepted
presenters/speaker have free entry to the conference.
Have a colleague join your proposal as co-author: The first co-author
also benefits from a 50% reduced fee.
Convince your employer to send a group of people: There will be
bundles at a substantially lower price. (Details are begin discussed
right now)
Convince your local Java User's Group or similar organization to pool
interests and do a group registration for their members which will
also be at substantially lower rates.
Propose a good tutorial: If a tutorial has enough subscriptions and
will be held, the tutorial speaker has free entry and plus the
possibility to even earn some money if there are enough participant
sin his/her tutorial.
We are also setting up a grant-program (hopefully with the help of
some sponsors) that should help developers form transition countries
to attend, but the details are not yet fixed. Subscribe on jazoon.com
to be notified on any announcements.
Register early: There will be an early-bird discount
In addition to the conference fees, travel expenses are always another
cost factor for a participant. Jazoon has therefore also pre-reserved
rooms in various price categories including budget hotels.
So in general I think that, especially for Europeans, Jazoon will be a
cost-efficient way to attend such a conference. But of course, we're
welcoming colleagues from all over the world.
