Top SUN guys, global media coverage, thousands of developers and the rock stars of Java community - basically all stakeholders of the Java universe will be together next week at San Francisco. For sure it is one of the best moments to seal the joint between OSS community and Java people.
No, I have no internal information, there is no secrets leak here, just my humble opinion and ten bucks I bet with a friend about this :)
I hope to be ten dollars richer next week :) ... see you there. |

The historical announcement last year opened parts of the Java platform. There is still some license issues to be defeated in order to provide Linux distributions to deliver real Java platform support for its end users. Java is still not Open Source, just parts of it. The full Open Source JDK, or a JRE 100% compatible with specification are still being waited by a large community in both sides of the open source movement: Java and Linux.

In fact, Ubuntu distribution put Java still in the "multiverse", not in the default repository. We're just in the middle of the transition. Of course I hope Felipe is right (after all he didn't bet with me, I won't have to pay ;-) - this would pave the way of a "final" integration of Java with Ubuntu (and other Linux distros).
