Coca Cola and Java

Posted by isolatednetworks on April 24, 2007 at 10:28 AM | Comments (3)

If Java powers 4.5 billion devices including 800 million computers, 1.5 billion mobile devices and 2.2 billion smart cards, then more people use Java than the number of people who have EVER tasted Coca Cola ONCE.

Relatively speaking, Java is unknown. Why?

  • I'd say that if a person can afford a mobile device (or anything with a smart card), than most probably he tasted Coca Cola. It's not a one-to-one (more than 1 device per person).

  • Java is a programming language, a specialized niche if I've ever heard of one, unlike "Coca-cola" which is a consumer brand, and heavily marketed as such. That being said, the term "Java" or its derivatives have slowly been pemeating into the every day consumer world in those areas where it plays a strong role in the marketing of a consumer devices. Examples would include "J2ME" in mobile devices and "BD-Java" or "BD-J" int he world of high-definition discs.
