What a difference a year makes.

On a personal note, June 10th represents two major milestones. java.net turned 1 year old and my first child turned 6 months old. They are the two most rewarding and challenging experiences of my professional and personal life.

What a great year we've had at java.net and look at how far we've come.

  • Zero to 54,000 members in our first year
  • Over 900 projects
  • 111 active bloggers
  • 14 Communities
  • Countless original articles
  • A fresh homepage every day

Since I started writing monthly reports in April, it became apparent how much we continue to accomplish and grow every single month. The collaboration and involvement of all of our members, bloggers, project owners, community leaders, and contributors is what makes java.net a great community.

Hopefully, a lot of our members will make it out to Java One this year so we can all meet in person and celebrate a successful first year. If you are attending, make sure to stop by the java.net booth as well as attend our many java.net events at Java One and introduce yourself.

Again, Happy Birthday java.net and thanks to all who contributed to our first year.

  • java.net is my homepage
At the beginning of 2004, I made java.net my homepage. Java.net is like CNN or MSNBC for developers, but we get to be involved. It is a wonderful experience.

  • Happy Birthday!
I've spent countless time reading, commenting, and blogging on Java.net over this past year. Fortunately, I've learned so much that it more than makes up for the time spent. Community sites like this can make us all better developers, and make Java stronger in general.

    Congratulations, and thank you!

  • Thank you all
At last year's JavaOne I said that one of the things I liked best about java.net is that, even as editor-in-chief, I had no idea what was on the site at any given moment. A year later and this is more true than ever with amazing contributions from a community that is both broad and deep.
Each weekday morning, I take a look at the weblogs, forums, contributed articles, links to other sites, projects, community home pages, and rss feeds and am awed by how much you guys do. Let me know what we can do in this second year.

  • I've had a great time.
I've loved contributing to Java.net and plan to continue doing so. The site has come along quite nicely. I wish we'd had it when I first started programming Java many years ago. I feel like the hairclub guy: "I'm not only a contributor; I'm also a reader!". Any thoughts on where we should take this thing?

Thank you all for your hard work.
