Understanding Locale

You know I have a soft spot for the internationalization APIs. So, whenever I see or write something that might help you to internationalize your application, I like to pass it on. Yes, I wrote it, but don't hold that against the article...or me.

Want your app to be a hit in Japan, Germany, or even China? It all starts with an understanding of Locale. Read Understanding Locale in the Java Platform to learn how to use the java.util.Locale class to affect locale-sensitive objects.

  • Locale is worth it, people. Sooner or later, if you're doing work for a multi-national organization, this will pop up. You might write a great application, and the application is so great, Mr. ____ in the country _____ wants to use the same application. Or maybe that was already a requirement for what you were working on! Numbers with Locale is fun...
