Anouncing Leonardo
Posted by joshy on September 5, 2010 at 12:20 PM CDT
Today I am proud to announce a project I've been working on for the past few months called Leonardo. I've long believed there's a need for a good desktop drawing app that is completely cross platform, free, and open source. Leonardo is that app.
You can read the full project announcement on my design blog here:

I received the following exception trying to run the Web Start version: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/apple/eawt/ApplicationListener This was in the "JNLP" directory, not the "Mac" directory.Inkscape: yes

If Leonardo is as good as inkscape, I'm very happy.Nice!

Good news, more applications like that is better! (PS.: you are missing a n in the title...)"there's a need for a good desktop drawing app that is completely cross platform, free, and open source"
I first thought about Gimp which seems to fit this definition quite well (but is a bit heavy for simple, quick tasks).
But checking http://leonardosketch.org/ I see it is about a vector drawing application, something you forgot to mention here and in the design blog... An important nuance.
Well, there is still Inkscape in this category (free, open source, cross-platform), and if you look at the Java world, there is JHotDraw (I haven't tried it).
But as I wrote, more choice is better. :-)
I will definitively take a close look at your application.
