My Dog is now Open Source

Posted by kellyohair on November 13, 2006 at 09:24 AM | Comments (6)

After a long debate it's finally happened, I've open sourced my dog. It just seemed like the right time, and all these concerns about people sticking forks in my dog, or taking it and actually teaching it new tricks, what was I thinking? So here she is:

Oh by the way, here are a list of issues I need fixed:

9103456 Keeps jumping up on people and licking them
9104567 Occasionally eats something dead, barfs in the front room
9105678 Runs around the house like a crazy dog when new people visit
9106789 Constantly barks at cats, then runs away from them

  • aren't you worried someone will take your dog's genetic material and produce a crazy hybrid ????

  • This should have been done 10,000 years ago. Open Sourced dogs would not have suffered from the genetic diseases associated with their inbreeding. I fear it is too late for this decision to have any effective impact.

  • How can I checkout a copy of your "my dog" source ;-)

  • I tried to open source my cat but I got stuck when I found so much proprietary modules in him. And not to talk about undocumented features!
At the end I gave up, but I'm starting a new project called OpenCat which will be a lot better than before, dropping all legacy modules which are no longer necessary (like the leaving lots of hair in my preferred chair function!)

  • My colleague Schalk Heunis' life dream is to have a dog which is also a cellphone. It seems that your project is halfway there, could you please add standard cellphone features asap. as we would like to start using it.

Thanks for supporting open source, where everybody is working together to make the world a better place.
