An unexpected bug report
Posted by kirillcool on January 29, 2006 at 12:45 PM | Comments (6)
It appears that somebody took my call to help internationalize Substance a little too far. See this bug report:
It appears to be in Chinese, and according to Kohsuke's best shot it's about incorrect drawing of Chinese symbols. Google translator is of no help here:
- It accepts the description in Japanese and translates it as "Desired talent? Learning/repairing reforming? Entire world"
- It accepts the description in Korean and partially translates it as "Watch national disgrace?"
- Finally, it accepts the description in simplified Chinese and translates it as "The hope can revise adapts world"
So long for the hopes of automatic translation (although i hear that Microsoft research center in China is making good progress at this task). What about you - do you have bug submissions on your projects in Chinese?

Translation from a Chinese friend... Just incase you're wondering.
The first one says that hope (we) can revise it so that it can be used all over the world. Looks like to they try to standardize that thing.
The second one says that unable to use Chinese entry software (two chinese words before ABC), which cause some problems to show Chinese.
I don't know the context here so my translation may not be precise. But I think mine is much better than Google translator :).

The Summary: (希望能够修改适应全世界) - hope it can suits everybody
the Description:(无法使用智能ABC这个输入法,显示中国文字有些问题)- Could not use the Intelligent ABC Input Method, it is included in MS Windows Chinese Version, you'd never seen it if you hadn't installed that localized version.
and
there's some problem with displaying Chinese character.
All in All, he hope to get Chinese Localization , maybe i18n.

pprun (and other Chinese-enabled java.net members with a little free time on their hands),
It would be of real help if you tried Substance 2.2 under this method and compared it with Metal. You are more than welcome to post the outcome either here or at the original bug posting.
Thanks, Kirill

to Kirill,
I'm getting your properties file and will send Chinese translated to you.
Does Only the Labels.properties file need translate?
regarding 'What about you - do you have bug submissions on your projects in Chinese?'
If someone else gets into the same encounter, if you like, feel free to send it to me:
pprun@users.sourceforge.net
I'll try my best to help you.

pprun,
You are more than welcome to send the translation to kirillcool [at] yahoo.com. The only file is the Labels.properties - you can find it in CVS, substance-src.jar or this link.
