JAX-WS 2.1 MR

Posted by kohlert on August 30, 2006 at 10:43 AM | Comments (5)

Work has begun on the JAX-WS 2.1 Maintenance Release. I will be the JAX-WS 2.1 MR spec lead and Arun Gupta will co-lead. The main purpose of this MR is to add WS-Addressing capabilities to JAX-WS as Arun mentioned in his blog. Some other problems will also be addressed such as the type substitution problem that some JAX-WS developers have encountered.

You should be seeing an some development of the 2.1 version of the RI in the near future.

  • I thought that JAX-WS 2.0 is a part of Mustang. Does it mean that Mustang will instead have JAX-WS 2.1 bundled? Please do provide your thoughts on this

  • JAX-WS 2.0 is part of Mustang and it will continue to be part of Mustang. Some future version of Java SE will include JAX-WS 2.1, I am not sure if that will be an update to Mustang or the next full release.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. If Mustang users do need to use JAX-WS 2.1, can they delete the jax-ws2.0 jars from the standard location and put jax-ws 2.1 jars. Am I missing anything here or is this a wrong procedure to do?

  • You should use the endorsed directory mechanism to override the JAX-WS 2.0 jars.
