Derby Graduates!!!!

Posted by lancea on July 28, 2005 at 06:48 AM | Comments (3)

Apache Derby, has successfully received approval to graduate from incubation. Derby will move from the incubator to be a sub project of the Apache DB project. Apache Derby is based on the Cloudscape codebase which IBM donated to Apache. Congrats to the efforts of all involved with the Apache Derby project for making this happen.

  • So... What does it do?

  • Lance,

I have a question for you (hope you don't mind it :): what's your releationship/role with the project?

I'm asking for curiosity's sake, as I've noticed you are very active on Derby's lists (I used to subscribe to them, but stopped as the traffic was too high), even though you're not a committer neither an IBMer. Is Sun planning to use it as the embedded datasource for JEE RI/Glassfish/AVK?

  • Hi Felipe,

Sun has multiple engineers as comitters on Derby. I am contributing a fix here and there myself when i have the cycles. I have been working with cloudscape/Derby for many years now. I am also keen on working with the derby dev team to help make sure Derby is following the JDBC 4 plans so that we can have JDBC 4 support in Derby sooner rather than later.
