JavaOne Blog 2: Where are the Sun machines?

Posted by malcolmdavis on May 09, 2007 at 07:07 AM | Comments (3)

During the general session, the attendee sitting next to me commented "He presenting on a Mac?".

On the stage, in plan view, were 2 MacBookPro's.

I have not seen the typical Sun laptops, that once were proudly displayed next to the session presenter.

At all the sessions I've attended so far, the demonstrations have been on Mac. [By the end of the day, I'm sure I will see a presenter running XP, Vista or LInux.]

I haven't walked into the hands on labs, the Sun machines might be there.

All the Macs seems appropriate, since after 20 years of development I just got my first Apple 3 days ago. :-)

  • Huh? Sun laptops? Sun never built any laptops? Maybe you're thinking of SunRay's? They ain't laptops. Many of our exec's use Mac's, FWIW. There are Sun machines in the hands on labs. And in the corridor connecting N and S Moscone there's a zillion SunRay's. And did you see that big black monolith on its side in the pavillion? That's another kind of Sun "box"....

  • Now, if Apple would just buy Sun we could have a company that understands fads and fashions with serious technological horsepower.

Interesting how, at various points in time, Sun would have been in a great position to buy Apple. :-)

  • I've been thinking about this all week. So many Macs here proving that the Java development community is adopting them, and I still can't get a Netbeans mobility pack to run on OSX.
