OpenDS 1.2.0 Ships
On February 6, OpenDS, Sun's open-source directory-server project written in the Java language, reached a significant milestone with its 1.2.0 release. As Sun directory architect Ludo Poitou points out in his posting, this new release contains new features and enhancements, among them a GUI control panel, an administration connector, and the ability to secure and encrypt connections with Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) mechanisms. Also in the posting are other related references: summary of features, documentation, release notes.
Note that OpenDS 1.2.0 will be part of the next OpenSolaris release. Coming up soon!A recent Sun Developer Network article, Perspectives on Quality Assurance for OpenDS, shines a light on the dedicated, combined efforts of the QA team and community in ensuring that OpenDS is "a superior global directory service." Gary Williams, the QA lead, has many insights to share there.
