Masood Mortazavi's BlogMay 2007 ArchivesREMINDER !Posted by mortazavi on May 11, 2007 at 09:25 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)This is a reminder of the informal (no shin guards!) post-JavaOne soccer {football} game logistics. All you need is a pair of shorts (you can also play in a pair of jeans if that's what you've got or purchase some shorts in one of the downtown shops), some sports shoes or shoes you want to get rid of (or soccer shoes), a T-shirt (perhaps, one of the ones you collected at JavaOne). Look at the logistics link above and below and meet us to start our treck to Fort Mason for the game. Logistics for Soccer {Football} on JavaOne FridayPosted by mortazavi on May 09, 2007 at 10:08 PM | Permalink | Comments (2)O.K. I've posted about this earlier. Here are some final details.
Socialize, socialize, socialize--Learn and TeachPosted by mortazavi on May 09, 2007 at 05:48 PM | Permalink | Comments (0)Remember: There were people far earlier than there was ever any technology. One comes way before the other, and the other has no meaning without the one. What does that obvious fact tell you? At JavaOne, where there are lots of technologies and lots of people around, the greatest learning happens through socialization with the people, the other participants, speakers, those working at the pods and everyone in the pavilion. I'm not kidding. Every moment of the meeting can be used to learn something about doing software, and the companies, people and business behind it. It won't be an exaggeration to say that you can pack six months or even one year of learning into one JavaOne conference, that is, if you use your time wisely and socialize to learn and to teach. I certainly have learned a great deal in the last two days talking to folks from as diverse a set of companies as IIT, Summit Tech Communications, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, Ericsson, O'Reilly, The World Bank, Zimbra, Hyperic, Funambol, Sun Java ME, Amobee, Terracotta, Jazillian and Oracle-Tangosol. I even learned about Jazillian, Terracotta Inc. and World Bank IT department while waiting in line for a cappuccino on the show floor ... It is that simple: Socialize, learn and teach! ... and don't forget to exchange your cards! You'll find it a most rewarding experience, and it beats being alone and simply hopping from session to session ... The experts are all around you ... and while you're at it, don't forget visiting the Java DB pod. I think it is pod 973, in the Sun Microsystems corner of the pavilion. Note that pods close Thursday, May 10th at 4:30.
... and ... if you're interested in capping this all with a game of soccer {football} just after the closure of this JavaOne 2007, see here.
@ the .org ZonePosted by mortazavi on May 08, 2007 at 11:33 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)This year, JavaOne is hosting a special .org Zone on its show floor. Right now, I'm sitting here with Dag Wanvik, a committer to Apache / Derby. To our right are a couple of people from the Open JDK project, to our left some folks from the Free Software Foundation, and around us, I can see desks for Apache Software Foundation, Greenfoot and Project Woodstock. What's Ahead for Java MEPosted by mortazavi on May 04, 2007 at 04:28 PM | Permalink | Comments (0)For those curious to know what's ahead with Java ME, the following JavaOne 2007 BoF delivered by Onno Kluyt might have just the right answers: BOF-5697, Tuesday, 8 May 20:00-20:50 "Take the Guessing out of the Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) Future: Latest JSRs Predict Exciting Technology Developments Ahead" ... Check out the content catalog for other topics! For other Java ME related BoFs, see here. Another cool Java ME BoF will be given by Björn Hjelt (TeliaSonera): "Mobile TV in Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME): Possibilities and Issues When Implementing a Streaming Video Client." If you're interested in a game of soccer {football} after JavaOne, before you go home, we can repeat what we did last year, perhaps with more players ... Note that this is NOT an official JavaOne or Sun event. It is just a bunch of people deflating after the conference, playing soccer {football}. So, bring your own soccer or sports gear, change of clothes, health insurance, etc. If you're interested, find a way to indicate your interest, a blog, a comment here or some other way. If there is enough interest, I can bring the cones and the balls for you! We will probably leave at around 5:30 pm on Friday, May 11, from SF MOMA across from Mascone Center. I expect we can start the game at around 7:00 pm. We'll probably play in the same location, at the Chrissy Fields near Fort Mason. During JavaOne, you might be able to find me in the pavilion. I'll be either at the Java DB pod or at the .orgZone most of Tuesday, and some of Thursday. Feel free to send me e-mail at Mortazavi at Tmail . Com. Alternatively, you can send me SMS at 408 421 4093 ... This is a self-organized thing ... I've made no field reservation ... If there are too many people, we need to find a routing mechanism :-)
