Writing a JSF Book

Posted by mriem on August 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM EDT

I have begun the process of writing a JSF book, it will be a slow process since I will be doing this in my spare time, but it will be packed with a lot of examples. Actually it will be a book that you should not just read, but you should do the coding alongside with it so you can a really good grasp of JSF.

If you have any comments about what you think should be in the book, please feel free to let us know at mriem@manorrock.com

I would recommend asking questions on the JSF forum at http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=427&start=0

Hi, Manfred!....I'm currently working with JSF with perhaps nothing knowledge in JSF compared to U... I need your help! Can i let u know my problem through mail?

If JSF 2.0 has most of the ajax features of richfaces or icefaces then a book on jsf 2.0 only is fine. Otherwise, in my opinion, your book should include richfaces and/or icefaces. If you write it in your spare time, how long does it take to finish it? 2 years? 3 years?

It will be about JSF 2.0 since that is coming out, but timeline wise I am not sure when it is going to be done.

If it is about JSF 2.0, I will be picking it up! Are you going to release it on Safari?

Yet another JSF book ? I think are are already a lot of JSF books.

I haven't decided yet if it is going to be a long book ;)

Cool. You're writing about JSF 2.0 right? If it's going to be a really long book, I would try to keep the meat in the first 200-300 pages, and have a "Part 2" of the book for more advanced things that most people probably won't do such as writing your own EL resolver or view handler. Try real hard to time it for the release of Java EE 6. Something many books seem to lack is examples using best practices.

Cool! I'm looking forward to reading it!
