Quicktime 7.2 Breaks Office 2004 Mac?
Posted by reckstei on July 12, 2007 at 05:37 AM | Comments (8)
After installing Quicktime 7.2 on two of my Macs yesterday, I noticed that none of my Office applications would start without crashing. Has anyone else noticed this crash?

While downloading the updates I just saw several comments on Macfixit from people having the same problem as you. I'm now nervous to restart my G5 to finish intallation (though it's a crashy machine so I'll probably have no choice). I'm definitely not updating anything on my Mac Book Pro until this issue is fixed.
So you are not alone, see here: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070711140051311#comments

Thanks, istara! No kudos for the testing teams on this one. Good thing I have NeoOffice on my system, which can pick up right where Office left off.

I upgraded qt and used office 2004 yesterday, but i can't remember in which order ... i'm fairly sure i did the upgrade first though.

Arrgh! This gets worse. It looks like this is breaking all PPC applications that are working their way through Rosetta. Each one of them bounces one or two times before shutting down.

First apple hardly updates Java on the mac despite all the jazz about macs being the best platform for java - for eg b88 has been around for almost a year now and several things are still broken w.r.t Java on my mac..AND NOW THIS..I had no idea why I had the double bounce and unceremonious failure with all my office apps till I saw this post.
I tried re-installing and even the re-install apps dont work- same problem double bounce and fail without any complaints!
This is terrible and maybe I blame the iphone!

Same thing for me... I didn't notice the correlation between QT update and office crash, but I get the exact behavior as all other people mentioned here. If I try to start *any* Office 2004 application (including the installation program), it crashes after a few seconds. The icon bounces and then disappears.

I installed QT 7.2 update for OSX yesterday. Now videos in my Processing programs won't play. How can I get back the version of QT I had previously?
