I can't comment on the Oracle-Sun acquisition but I'd like to direct your attention to the first-page ad in todays Wall Street Journal.
I don't think anyone should be doubting Oracles commitment. Personally, I'm looking forward to what's to come.

This is good news for SPARC and Solaris, but ...

... there was no mention of Java or software projects like Glassfish and NetBeans. It only mentions "Oracle's software". I suppose we should assume that the intent was to put the fear of Larry in IBM, and ease customer concerns. I don't think IBM is scared, and at least one customer's concerns weren't even addressed.
