What happened to JAX-WS 2.1 RI download?

Posted by vivekp on March 05, 2007 at 07:31 PM | Comments (5)

You might have noticed that JAX-WS 2.1 RI download link takes you to an Error page. We have fixed that to say what is really going on with JAXWS 2.1 specification and RI.

So why we have to do this? Well, WS-Addressing WSDL Binding spec was normatively referenced by JAX-WS 2.1 specification and was in CR state when the spec and RI went final few weeks back. After we released JAXWS 2.1 RI and the spec, it came to our attention that WS-Addressing Working  Group has decided to drop this spec and instead do WS-Addressing Metadata (a Working Draft now). So in effect the Binding spec is dead and JAXWS 2.1 specification references it!

We believe we need to take corrective action to address this issue. Doug is working with JAX-WS expert group to remove references to now dead WS-Addressing WSDL Binding spec and make related changes in the spec and API javadocs.

Hence, we have temporarily removed access to the JAXWS 2.1 RI to prevent any use of these until the specification issues are resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will have some more updates on it in approximately two weeks.

In the meantime, continue using JAXWS 2.1 nightly

  • Hi Vivek,

I have recently used the JAX-WS 2.1 and after much trouble getting around the Netbeans IDE 5.5 issue (i finally got my code compiling in Netbeans 5.5.1 nightly build of Feb 19th), i feel that its being too much pain to keep up with using JAX-WS. I really liked the use of annotations and thats why i chose to use it over JAX-RPC but after reading this post of yours i am not sure if this will get me to rework. Thanks for informing us, btw.

    Regards,
    Watsh

  • Vivek, How long do you think it might take for the download to become available again?

Posted by: rwatsh on March 09, 2007 at 10:11 AM

  • Watsh: You dont have to worry. You can continue using JAX-WS 2.1 nightlies with the latest fixes. As I mentioned, this was required to protect our users who dont use our JAXWS 2.1 Final release and give us chance to take corrective action due to the W3C WSDL Binding spec that died after we released our bits! I can assure you that we are working on it an should be able to release soon. In the meantime continue using JAXWS 2.1 nightlies that have latest fixes.

  • Vivek, I have been using the nightly build, and it works out great!

Any rough timeframe that JAX-WS 2.1 will be released so that the users can include it as part of their solution? Nightly builds we can't ship with.
