JavaOne already tickled my fun-bone:
They the announced they were featuring a Java-programmable toy robot.
It isn't available in the U.S. yet, but I got one shipped from the UK. This "RS media" bot has a java-and-linux brain -- and looks like the comic-book Ironman character. It is barely unpacked, but I can tell its going to be a long summer of hacking this thing -- as it roams and dances on my patio, snooping and driving my dog nuts!
See you at JavaOne! And thanks for all your work on this blog!

Robosapian Innovator Challenges Java Programmers: Make My Robot Boogie!
A major innovator of toy robots is taking to the web -- using his new blog to leak out information on coming developments – and he will be using this blog to get personal feedback from all you robot-lovers and Robosapien fans.
Davin Sufer is officially CTO of WowWee Ltd, and he is called the head of their "technical efforts." All that basically means he is the mastermind of most fascinating and addicting legion of robots in the world. He is a key creative force behind the still-evolving Robosapien lineage, the Flytech Dragonfly and the hilarious singing Alive Elvis.
Davin has set in motion a
wild set of contests taking place right now on May 8 at the JavaOne Developers contest.
The challenge posed by one contest is to use the sophisticated motion of the RS Media robots to make them dance up a storm.
The other contest has RS Media bots programmed to escape from a “room of death” maze.
These robots have programmable brains based on Linux and Java. And Javaheads are turning their lines of code into chorus lines of dancing robots.

Correction:
Sorry folks, in my enthusiasm for Davin's blog, I misspoke. He is a key creative force behind the still-evolving Robosapien line. But I should not have linked him to Flytech Dragonfly and Alive Elvis. (As if the Robosapien isn't enough for any brain!)
Apologies to Davin.
By the way, the thread on his blog, has focused on the challenges people are having programming in Java for these RS Media Bots, and on the steps that have been taken to open that up. So the response has been interesting, including Davin's contributions and inside information.
