Days In The Sun Over

Posted by webmink on March 9, 2010 at 4:06 AM PST

After nearly 10 years at Sun, and 5 years as Chief Open Source Officer, I have now left Sun. You can read my reflections on those years on my new personal blog (to which you may wish to subscribe).

Thank you for your vision.

Simon, it is directly due to your work and vision at Sun that I shifted my focus so many years ago from GNU software to the world of Sun Java. I love Free Software, and GNU will always have a place in my life, but the attitude you shifted there at Sun toward Open Source really made a difference in how people like me looked at Java. Working in the Enterprise for so long, and seeing Java with a suspicion I only reserved for certain Microsoft applications (even that has waned), I wasn't prepared for my own mental leap that I took with Sun. Now I am a Java advocate, a JUG leader and have found a renewed joy in the software industry. Thank you for your vision, indeed. And may your next venture be as fruitful.

Cheers.
