Once again the FUD around Solaris and OpenSolaris fate started to spread after Dana Blankenhorn miss understood the licensing terms and used a eye catching and visitor increasing title, Oracle taking back OpenSolaris, for his blog entry. Well, from this article we can get that even the veteran writers can get things wrong and spread incorrect news :-)

OpenSolaris

I've been trying to install OpenSolaris since 2006, with no luck. At that time, probably, there were some blocking bugs of the installer when working in a MacBook Pro; furthermore network drivers were only available for 64 bits (and I only got a first generation MacBook Pro). About one year ago I bought a 64-bit MacBook Pro and probably the bugs had been fixed by that time, but I filled my 500GiB...

In 2 days, Porto Alegre will host one of the biggest Open Source events in the planet: FISL (Free Software International Forum). The OSUG POA is putting together 2 days events solely about OpenSolaris and this is just Day 1 in a small city 2 hours from Porto Alegre, called Santa Cruz do Sul.

I can't comment on the Oracle-Sun acquisition but I'd like to direct your attention to the first-page ad in todays Wall Street Journal. I don't think anyone should be doubting Oracles commitment.
