LCD Text: Anti-Aliasing on the Fringe
Subject:  Antialiasing is not a panacea

Higher resolution improves appearance of a good font, but does nothing to a bad font. Start Windows and Linux side by side with the same resolution and see how Windows fonts are more smooth while being crisp, and this is without antialiasing.

I consider automatic antialiasing as a post-processing for ugly fonts. I would prefer to simply have good fonts instead.

Antialiased fonts make text blurry and make my eyes strain. I always turn it off whenever I can.
