Richard P. Gabriel received a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1981, and an MFA in Poetry from Warren Wilson College in 1998. He is chief scientist of a small laboratory at Sun Microsystems, President of the Hillside Group, and the CEO of Dream Songs, Inc.

OOPSLA 2005: OOPSLA is coming up soon. As the premier object conference, OOPSLA should be of interest to members of the java.net community. I'm the program chair and have been working on revising the conference to be of interest to the larger programming community. Here are some reasons why I think you should attend OOPSLA this year.

Reputation and Sun: Someone at the first Community Meeting last night asked about whether Sun could be trusted to "do the right thing" with java.net.
