Indigo setup on Vista Beta1

Posted by arungupta on September 2, 2005 at 3:20 PM PDT

I got Windows Longhorn
Vista Beta1
through MSDN
subscription
and decided to upgrade my Windows
XP
+SP2.
The Sys-admins in my company were prompt to help me configure that. I got
tempted to setup Windows Communication Framework (codename Indigo)
on this machine. So I tried installing Visual
Studio 2005 Beta2
. I was expecting a smooth VS installation but history
repeats
itself (different manifestation) and I got this error:

[09/01/05,17:50:30] MSXML 6.0 Parser: [2] Error code 2 for this component means "The system cannot find the file specified.
"
[09/01/05,17:50:30] MSXML 6.0 Parser: [2] Component MSXML 6.0 Parser returned an unexpected value.

[09/01/05,17:50:30] MSXML 6.0 Parser: [2] Return from system messaging: The system cannot find the file specified.

[09/01/05,17:50:36] setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install() failed in ISetupManager::InstallManagerHelper() with HRESULT -2147023293.

[09/01/05,17:50:36] setup.exe: [2] Component error string not specified in ISetupManager::AddToActionResultCollection()
[09/01/05,17:50:39] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates MSXML 6.0 Parser is not installed.
[09/01/05,17:50:39] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition Beta 2 - ENU was not attempted to be installed.

Trying to install with multiple component combinations did not help at all. I
tried googling
for any solutions but nothing on Vista so finally filed a bug.
This morning I was excited to see a workaround
in the bug report. I tried it and boom, it worked!

I installed Win FX Runtime
Components Beta1
and SDK
Beta1
after that and everything went smoothly.

IIS is already installed part of Vista, so I'm just excited to start playing with Indigo samples now ...
