In Monday afternoon's General Session, BEA chief technology officer Mark Carges announced two new initiatives from BEA.

Carges outlined BEA's strategy to develop "the industry's first J2EE application environment that is designed to fully support all major open source frameworks". The new tools designed by BEA will allow developers to use their favorite open source framework - such as Apache Beehive and Spring Framework - with BEA's proprietary components and deployment platforms.

For their other announcement, Carges announced BEA's plans to improve the performance of Java technology. This new product, the JRockit Java Virtual Machine, has been designed to meet the needs of BEA customers in the financial services and telecommunications industries.
