Open Document Format Alliance Gaining Support

Two articles last week reported the impressive growth of the recently formed Open Document Format Alliance, whose members (including IBM, Sun, and Oracle) advocate an open file format for digital documents:

The Open Document Format, approved by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) in May 2005, is being evaluated for approval "as a de jure standard." How will it stack up against the Open XML format that will be used by Microsoft in its next Office release? Let all eyes be peeled.
