An enlightening interview on SD Times contains a Q&A with the three inventors of DTrace—the dynamic tracing capability in the Solaris 10 Operating System that won The Wall Street Journal's top innovation award earlier. The Q&A talks about how the increasing complexity of software means that an application is much more than just a binary: It also involves middleware and multiple languages. Hence why the high acclaim for DTrace, which "can go anywhere and instrument anything."And now that it's an open-source tool, DTrace is being integrated into Mac OS X, Linux, and BSD, the article says. That's truly heartening to see.
