Sun's employee No. 1—senior VP and chief architect, Andy Bechtolsheim, was recently named by CRN as one of the top 25 most influential executives of 2006. He reinvigorated Sun's server and storage business, according to CRN, which quoted Mark Teter, CTO of Advanced Systems Group, as saying: "Bechtolsheim is 'responsible for Sun becoming the best vendor in the x86 space.'"Over a year ago, I attended a talk by Andy Bechtolsheim at an internal group meeting at Sun regarding the terrific Galaxy machines that were in the making. His presentation was clear, easy to comprehend, to the point, and even humorous here and there—truly impressive! At the end of the talk, the engineer friend who sat next to me and I turned to each other, "Wow."

Andy Bechtolsheim deserves a deep bow.
