Fedlets, a key new feature in the upcoming Sun Federated Access Manager, twin of OpenSSO, are, to paraphrase Sun identity architect Pat Patterson, lightweight packages created by identity providers to efficiently federation-enable small service providers. By way of explaining the nuances, Sun product manager Sidharth Mishra has spotlighted the following:

  • A screencast on Fedlets, including a typical scenario, the process flow, and FAQs
  • Two ways in which service providers can acquire and deploy Fedlets, that is, through identity providers or from Sun Federated Access Manager

Fedlets are without a doubt an important breakthrough for identity federation. Stay tuned for more buzz on that topic please.
