A recent Enterprise Networking Planet article, Will OpenSolaris 2008.11 Attract Linux Users?, starts with a comparison of the two operating systems and delves into the OpenSolaris 2008.11 features, complete with screen shots. Of note are the Image Packaging System, Time Slider for automatic backups, and other desktop highlights: GNOME 2.2.4, Firefox 3, OpenOffice.

The author observes, "OpenSolaris doesn't need the exclusive community that Solaris enjoyed all these years, it needs the huge Linux community. I think it will happen; the question is, "'how quickly?'" Quite a positive assessment!
