Code for Freedom

Posted by robogeek on August 16, 2007 at 3:19 PM PDT

A couple years ago I ran a contest asking y'all to find regression bugs in JDK6 (the project formerly known as Mustang) and while that was fun I'm glad I'm not involved in running this new contest we've launched. The new contest, Code For Freedom is really cool, and I'm excited to learn about it. But it's a six month contest and as I said I'm glad someone else is doing it... we're asking students in India to make contributions to certain open source projects, with prizes for the best ones. The prizes are pretty significant, and the opportunity is there for the students to learn some cool technologies, to learn about open source project participation, and to get their feet wet in software development.

In India there is a movement to embrace open source software in a big way.
