JAXP 1.4 FCS is available now!

The First Customer Shipment (FCS) version of JAXP 1.4 Reference Implementation (RI) is now available from Java.net. JAXP 1.4 is maintainance release of JAXP 1.3 with added support for the Streaming API for XML (StAX), and it is also the release included in Java SE 6.0.

The JAXP 1.4 RI includes the SJSXP implementation of StAX, which is based on the robust engine provided by Xerces2 Java. SJSXP is also the foundation for JAX-WS and WSIT in Glassfish.

JAXP 1.4 is compatible with JRE 1.4 and JRE 5.0 and it can be installed using the Endorsed Standard Override Mechanism. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is by setting the java.endorsed.dirs system property to point to the directory where the JAXP jars reside. Regardless of which mechism is employed, we have greatly simplified this process by reducing the number of jar files to just two: jaxp-api.jar and jaxp-ri.jar.

The JAXP RI continues to be developed at the jaxp-sources project at Java.net, and a weekly build is downloadable here. Discussions about JAXP.next are just begining to emerge at the users@jaxp.dev.java.net mailing list, so come and join us to make sure that you're requirements are addressed in JAXP.next!
