JavaOne

I don't get to do a lot of whizzy graphical stuff in my day-to-day work. I mostly do the typical back-end, multi-threaded server kind of thing. I spend most of my time thinking about API design, framework architecture, robustness, correctness and so on. I blogged yesterday about some excellent sessions that address those sorts of concerns. But I also like to look into other interesting...

JSR 277 is the technical spec for Java Modules, a way to promote the "module" concept in both your own applications and in the Java platform itself. In their JavaOne session this morning, the co-spec leads -- Alex Buckley and Stanley Ho -- clarified that the previous JSR 294 "superpackages" spec has been consumed by this new JSR. JSR 277 includes modularity concepts and features for both...

First up was a talk by Josh Bloch, More Effective Java,...

Those of you following my work are probably aware we'll be presenting a JavaOne session about JSR 310, aka the new Date & Time API. The original session got full a few weeks ago, so a repeat was scheduled a few days ago. Unfortunately, it also got full last week. The good news is that our Thursday session was moved to a larger room, so now there are around 60 seats available. So, if you are...

From James Gosling's t-shirt toss to Neil Young talking up Blu-Ray technology, this year's keynote rocked the house. Check this out for some snippets from the show.

Well, I really can't express all my feelings in these days - even because I'm still suffering from the jet lag. My first thought is that I'm happy to be in San Francisco again, after six years, and to attend Java One again. I didn't remember the Moscone Center was so huge and yesterday morning it took some time for me to find the room for the NetBeans track. As I said so many times, in this age...
