Australian Time Zone Changes Affect Java Apps

We'll do anything for sports...and in Australia, they'll even delay their normal switch back from Daylight Saving Time or Summer Time. The change would have happened on March 26 2006, but to accommodate the Commonwealth Games this year, the change will be on April 2 instead.

Unfortunately, this means that a whole lot of software is now broken. Unless you're running the most recent updates of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), your application may be broken too. If your app uses time or time zone functionality in Australia, it will report incorrect time from Mar 26 through April 2 2006. The problem is that the JRE has outdated time zone data. The fix is in updated JREs.
