Posted by marinasum on April 7, 2006 at 11:08 AM PDT

Early this week, a short and crisp InfoWorld interview with Tim Bray, director of Web technologies at Sun, and an article by Sun CEO Scott McNealy extol the benefits of open-sourcing software. In particular, Tim discusses the tricky task of motivating community developers to contribute on the premise that their work might benefit Sun only. Also, according to Tim, the future of software products hinges on how much support there is from the community. Open source—what else?—opens a gate and encourages and fosters interest, involvement, and even commitment.
