I thought it would be there a month ago, and then I thought that it wouldn't make it at all, but it turns out that the "Rough Cut" of Romain's and my book is available on Safari Books Online.
So it made JavaOne after all. Which is nice, since we have 3 sessions on it this year (we just finished our JavaU session, then we have a session on it Wednesday and Friday).
I believe (having not seen it yet) that the online version is quite close to what we submitted as our "final" manuscript. This means that all of the content is solid, but there are probably issues with typos, some wording, and formatting that will be cleaned up before the final printed book version.
As far as the printed book is concerned, we are in the midst of the "copy editing" phase, just finishing up chapter 14 (of 19) today. Then it goes through formatting/layout (can't they just call
revalidate() on it and then
repaint()?) and we get to do one final (I hope) round of edits on that. Then it prints in July and floods the market in August.
But if you just can't wait, check out the Rough Cut on Safari. And look for our demos to be posted online little by little until then.
