Sun to Acquire MySQL

Sun has announced an agreement to acquire MySQL. (Reports can also be found at WSJ and Reuters.)

Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's CEO, discusses the acquisition on his blog.

Why would it mean anything? MySQL can't be embedded in a JVM, nor can it (easily) be embedded within an application, whereas JavaDB can do both.

What does it mean for the JavaDB and future plans of bundling it with JDK?
